USA Kayak Polo Nationals to play Aug. 31-Sept. 1 at Tega Cay

 

— The biggest kayak polo event in the country is heading downstream.
Originally set for McDowell Nature Preserve in Steele Creek, the upcoming national championship event will be held in Tega Cay. The event still will be hosted by Carolina Kayak Polo Club, and still will happen during Labor Day weekend.
“No major changes, basically just location,” said Carolina club and women’s national team member Kim Parker. “It will be at the beachfront area near the pool.”

Andy rises to challenge with third place at Europeans

Portrush Surf Kayaker, Andy McClelland, is celebrating after finishing among the medals yet again at the European Surf Kayak Championships last week.

The former World and European Junior champion was thrilled to finish third in the long boat category and fifth in the short boat having made the step up to the senior ranks.
Over 50 competitors took part in the event, which was held along side the Ocean Spirit Festival in Santa Cruz, Portugal, with some travelling from as far away as Brazil and Australia.
It was a very challenging field, so understandably Andy was delighted to finish with a medal: “The week long contest had great surf throughout with some days providing big and challenging conditions,” he told Times Sport. “I surfed really well all week. It is a long and difficult contest so you have to keep your head down and take each round as it comes.

The Caddis Fly is thrilled to be one of the sponsors of the Fifth Annual Sunset Bay Angler of the Day (a kayak-only fishing tournament) next month at Sunset Bay State Park in Coos Bay, OR.  
Tournament Description:
This is a points per inch based contest. Points are assigned to each of the available species that can be caught in the area. The angler with the highest point total at the end of the contest will be declared the winner and receive the Hobie Outback Mirage Drive Kayak.

Jersey native shares his sea-kayaking adventure

Teaneck native Dov Neimand can write the book about sea kayaking. In fact he is doing just that.


Neimand recently completed an ambitious journey by sea, from Barcelona, Spain, with a layover in Naples, to Cyrpus, some 2,500 nautical miles.

LCKC's quest for national title gets off to fast start at Olympic Venue

GAINESVILLE -- The Lanier Canoe/Kayak Club’s quest for another national title sprinted out of the starting gate on Thursday.

The LCKC won eight events on the first day of 2014 USA Canoe/Kayak Sprint National Championships at the Lake Lanier Olympic Venue at Clark’s Bridge in Gainesville, putting itself in prime position to nab its 11th overall crown.

“Everything went really well. The LCKC did very well,” LCKC coach and Olympic Venue director Morgan House said. “I think we’re probably looking really good for winning the thing, but we’ve still got two more days to go.”
